HCSO SWAT Team Responds to Residence on Leggett Road

Hamilton County, TN – Earlier this afternoon at approximately 3:15 pm, family members contacted 911 in regards to an individual making suicidal threats.

The residence where the individual was located was 2149 Leggett Road.

Deputies responded to the scene and before arriving in the driveway the individual began firing rounds in the direction of deputies.

Deputies then immediately set up a perimeter and requested SWAT personnel to respond to the scene. SWAT was requested in order to help ensure the safety of the deputies and that of the individual.

As SWAT personnel arrived on scene and formed a perimeter, the individual once again fired several rounds from the property in the direction of law enforcement. No deputies were injured.

Eventually, SWAT personnel breached the property gate and set up an additional perimeter around the residence.

Several attempts were made to gain the individual’s compliance including speaking with negotiators and utilizing tear gas. Yet again, the individual began firing on deputies. At this time, deputies did return fire.

After several hours of speaking with negotiators and numerous shots fired at deputies by the individual, the subject was taken into custody by personnel. He was then taken to a local hospital for medical review. Neither the deputies on scene nor the individual received gunshot wounds.

Leggett Road has been reopened. The scene of the incident is secure and is currently being processed. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division are on scene and investigating.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy, Allen Branum, who was on the scene, stated, “I am extremely proud of the care and restraint exhibited by our personnel on scene in trying to bring this very serious incident to a safe and peaceful resolution. Despite being fired upon numerous times, deputies managed to get the individual into custody without serious injury. This situation could have easily resulted in a very different outcome. Once again, I am very proud of our personnel tonight.”

The name of the individual has not been released at this time.

There are several charges pending at this time, including felony reckless endangerment.

This is incident is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
