The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was called to 7709 Shorttail Springs Rd. today at approximately 9:53 a.m. on a shooting. On arrival Deputies found a victim lying in the road dead of apparent gunshot wounds. She has been identified as Melissa Hoover age 31.

The alleged suspect, Malcom Witherow age 57 was gone from the scene before the arrival of the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators released a BOLO to the public regarding the suspect and his description. Information was received that the suspect was at Moccasin Bend. Law enforcement responded to that location and placed him in custody.

Mr. Witherow has been charged with 1st Degree Murder and was transported to the Hamilton County Jail. No bond was set. The court date is unknown at this time.
