HCSO Corrections Personnel Celebrate National Correctional Officer Week

05/02/2022

Hamilton County, TN – This week the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is celebrating National Correctional Officers Week beginning Sunday, May 1st.

Nation Corrections Officer Week originally began in 1984 when then President Ronald Reagan issued Proclamation 5187 entitled the National Correctional Officers Week, in which he called upon officials of state and local governments and the people of the United States to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities to recognize the contributions of our correctional officers and civilian corrections employees.

National Correctional Officers Week gives not only the HCSO, but our community the opportunity to recognize and honor the service and contributions made by our Corrections Services personnel. Each day, HCSO Corrections Services personnel are responsible for the operations of the Silverdale Detention Center and more than 1,000 inmates in our agency’s custody.

“As we celebrate National Correctional Officer Week, it is important to acknowledge the enormous contributions made to our community by our Corrections Services personnel. Each and every day, they put their lives on the line to ensure the safety of the inmates in our custody and the safe operation of the Silverdale Detention Center. It is a thankless and difficult job that many of us could not imagine, especially considering the significant challenges our corrections services personnel have endured since the transition began from CoreCivic in December 2020. Sheriff Hammond and I are proud of their service and commitment to the HCSO and the citizens of Hamilton County,” stated Chief Deputy Austin Garrett.

Please join with us as we acknowledge the service and efforts of our Corrections Services personnel.
