08/20/2021

Hamilton County, TN – Earlier this morning, HCSO Court Deputy Anthony Brown presented Sheriff Jim Hammond a flag flown over Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp on September 11, 2020. The flag was certified by the Joint Detention Group, Joint Taskforce Guantanamo Bay, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Presented in a beautiful ceremonial case, the flag was flown over Camp VI at Guantanamo Bay at 9:50 AM for nine minutes and eleven seconds in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

HCSO Court Deputy Anthony Brown is a Sergeant in the Tennessee Army National Guard and was deployed for approximately one year in 2020 with the 252nd Military Police Company.

“I am very grateful to Deputy Brown for having this American flag flown for the HCSO in honor of those who perished during the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001. As Sheriff and as a navy veteran, I appreciate not only his service to his community as a court deputy, but his service to his country during Operation Enduring Freedom,” stated Sheriff Jim Hammond.

The flag presented by Court Deputy Anthony Brown will be on permanent display in the Sheriff’s Administrative Offices.
