HCSO K-9 Unit Receives Ballistic K-9 Vest through Donation

07/22/2021

Hamilton County, TN – Earlier this morning, Thursday, July 22, 2021, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office hosted an event to honor and recognize KC Candle Company for their generous donation of one new ballistic vest for our K-9 Unit. The CEO of KC Candle Company, Stacy Prater, was on hand for the event.

The ballistic vest was made possible by KC Candle Company's Candles for Canines Program which allows customers who purchase candles to make a donation at the time of purchase. The funds generated from this program, in addition to corporate funding from KC Candle Company, is used to purchase oxygen masks and ballistic vests for K-9’s throughout our region.

“We have always had a huge love for dogs and as any dog owner knows, they become part of one’s family. This is no different with law enforcement as these dogs and their handlers develop a strong bond. We started the Candles for Canines Program as a way to help protect these K-9 officers,” stated KC Candle Company owner, Stacy Prater. “The Candles for Canine Program is a simple way of giving law enforcement agencies the tools necessary to help these K-9 officers do their job successfully as well as being protected while doing so,” he further noted.

This new ballistic K-9 vest, valued at approximately $700, will increase the safety and capabilities of one of our newest patrol canines, Ferro, while he works in dangerous situations along with his handler.

“I am grateful to Mr. Prater and his company, KC Candles, for their donation to our K-9 Unit and the important partnership they have built not only with the HCSO, but with other area law enforcement and first responders. Donations like this ballistic vest help law enforcement agencies ensure their personnel have the right tools and resources necessary to be successful. The HCSO is thankful for the generosity and willingness to support our K-9 Unit shown by KC Candle Company,” stated Chief Deputy Austin Garrett.
