Sheriff Jim Hammond Comments on Las Vegas Shooting

10/02/2017

“As Sheriff of Hamilton County and on behalf of the men and women of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, I am saddened by the tragic events that occurred in Las Vegas overnight. It is frightening to believe that someone would use an event such as a concert to inflict such evil and carnage in our country.

On behalf of the HCSO, I would like to offer our prayers and support to the victims and their families as they begin the healing and grieving process.

Furthermore, we would like to offer our appreciation, prayers, and support to our courageous brothers and sisters in the Las Vegas Police Department who ran towards the sound of gunfire with no concern to their personal safety to save innocent lives. This is the true essence of heroism and these men and women should be honored for their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to serve and protect.

We live in troubled and uncertain times… when many of us wonder how we as a Nation have come to this point of trepidation. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said it best at his first Inaugural Address when he stated, “In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves, which is essential to victory.”

For those of us who rely on our faith we know that in the end, victory over evil prevails. Our nation will continue and we as a community will support one another and stand united.

Today the HCSO prays for peace and we remember those who had their lives forever changed last night in Las Vegas.”
