HCSO Asked to Investigate CPD Officer Involved Shooting

Hamilton County, TN - In the early morning hours of September 4, 2017, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond was notified by District Attorney General Neal Pinkston and advised to investigate an Officer Involved Shooting involving the Chattanooga Police Department at the 5200 block of Central Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Investigators with the HCSO are activity working the investigation and when complete, will report their findings to DA Pinkston. The suspect in this case was transported to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is committed to conducting a thorough and fair investigation and upon the conclusion, will report its findings to District Attorney General Neal Pinkston.

CPD Chief Roddy may choose to make further comments regarding what led up to the shooting, but at this time the HCSO has no additional details to release.

Any questions regarding the events that led up to the shooting should be directed to the Chattanooga Police Department and any questions pertaining to the investigation should be directed to the District Attorney’s Office.

The HCSO will continue to follow up on particulars of the shooting. Any further details of this investigation will be released through either the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office or through the HCSO pending approval from District Attorney General Neal Pinkston.
