HCSO Deputy Honored by Life Force with Life-Saving Medical Call of the Year

05/25/2017

Hamilton County, TN – Yesterday, numerous First Responders in the Hamilton County and surrounding areas where honored by Erlanger LifeForce for going above and beyond the call of duty. One of those honored was Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, Larry Robbins. Deputy Robbins received Erlanger Life Force’s Medical Call of the Year Award.

Deputy Robbins received this prestigious award for his efforts to help locate and extract a man who was hunting over a mile in the woods in December of 2016 after suffering from an acute myocardial infraction (heart-attack). The patient, unable to walk the long distance out of the woods, called his wife to say goodbye fearing the worst, before ultimately calling 911.

Upon arriving on scene and realizing the urgency of the medical situation, Deputy Robbins, along with HCEMS personnel, took it upon themselves to go around a locked gate preventing medical response vehicles to respond quickly and began the long trek to find the patient. Not being familiar with the terrain, Deputy Robbins radioed the dispatcher who was on the line with the patient and asked him to fire his weapon in the air in order to help locate him. This act, ultimately helped rescuers find the man and carry him to an open clearing so Life Force Helicopter could land and take him to appropriate medical treatment.

Thanks to Deputy Robbins quick thinking, the patient was located much faster, was transported by LifeForce helicopter, and eventually made a full recovery.

On hand for the ceremony were numerous Erlanger executives and Life Force personnel, EMS and law enforcement officers, and several family members of those being honored for their heroic deeds.

Deputy Robbins was joined by his wife Amber as well as Sheriff Jim Hammond, Support Services Director Gino Bennett, and Public Information Officer Matt Lea. Deputy Robbins is an eight year veteran of the HCSO. He and his wife, Amber, have three children.

Please offer Deputy Larry Robbins your appreciation and congratulations for a job well done and for going above and beyond the call of duty.

His commitment to excellence and duty helped to save a man’s life.
