The HCSO Motorpool controls the purchase, assignment and maintenance of 198 vehicles within the department. The department employs two mechanics to provide most general service work, with other major repairs contracted out to private repair shops. The vehicle fleet is managed daily by one Lieutenant. Our vehicle fleet consists of marked patrol units, unmarked units, motorcycles, and vans.

Specialty Vehicles

In addition to maintaining the County’s rather large fleet, there are a number of vehicles that possess some unique maintenance requirements. It’s not uncommon for our Service Technicians to be tasked with repairing unconventional vehicles such as the Marine Division’s watercraft or even an antique Model T police cruiser.

Fleet Vehicles

Fleet vehicles typically lead hard lives. Although the County maintains a maintenance department, assigning the vehicles to specific mechanics, the vehicles are often operated by several drivers, subjecting them to accelerated wear. Fleet vehicles may also be subjected to unusual conditions such as 24-hour use or excessive cargo weights, and may be kept in service until they have accumulated hundreds of thousands of miles.
