Reserve Officer Program

This unit is currently made up of 27 citizens from the communities within Hamilton County. These officers underwent weeks of specialized training, thorough background investigations, and other testing to become sworn part-time deputies. These officers provide a great service to the Sheriff’s Office with countless hours of free labor being provided on different community projects. The special part-time deputies ride on patrol and support full-time officers, and work special functions, such as traffic control and security at the County Fair, Riverbend Festival, Air Show and other events during the year.

Within the Reserve Force are special part-time deputies who are Native Americans. Our department is believed to be the first law enforcement agency in the nation to establish a Native American Reserve Force. The Native American Reserve Force patrols Moccasin Bend and Williams Island daily to preserve the property, burial grounds, and artifacts buried and left on the property. These officers patrol by foot, boat and vehicles and provide a great service to the county.
